Frequently Asked Questions:
I have never sung with a choir, but I love to sing…. is it true anyone can join? Is this something I can do?
Yes, anyone can join the chorus. You do not need to know how to read sheet music or have any other singing experience. YGS provides a safe, non-judgmental space for you to find your voice. If you love to sing, you’re in!
How does it work? Do we pick one location and attend once/week?
Once you register for your “home” rehearsal, you are then welcome to attend any of the YGS rehearsals every week. Some people choose to sing a few times a week or sing at different rehearsals to suit their shift work, travel plans, etc. It’s all included in your registration. Sing on in joy!
How do I register? Should I mail in the registration or bring the form and fee on the first night of the choir?
There are 4 ways you can register for You Gotta Sing. You can register online here on the website, before March 17, 2016 and mail a cheque to You Gotta Sing, PO Box 222, Lakeside, NS, B3T 1M6; or you can register online here and pay with debit or credit card using PayPal; or you can show up at your first rehearsal, fill out the registration form and pay with cash or cheque, made payable to You Gotta Sing. You can also contact Vanessa directly about the Bursary option.
I was wondering if I could attend the first one to see what it was like before signing up for the whole session?
Absolutely! Visitors are always welcome at choir!

I’m not in a position to pay for choir at this time. Is the YGS bursary an option for me?
Sure thing! The YGS bursary can cover the full fee for you! There is an unlimited number of bursaries to be given out to anyone in need. And, singers can call on the bursary from season to season, anytime it is needed.
I notice that all of your rehearsal locations take place in churches. Is YGS affiliated with any organized religion?
You Gotta Sing! Chorus is not affiliated with any particular religious or spiritual path. I believe that “singing is our birthright” and by singing together, we create positive vibrations that contribute to a more harmonious world for all. YGS sings both sacred and secular songs from a variety of traditions and sources. Church spaces often have wonderful acoustics, availability for large groups to gather regularly, and are often supportive and encouraging of community initiatives that make a positive difference in our world.
